Pill Profits for Willing Doctors

With health care expected to reach nearly 18% of our nationally GDP in 2012, this is by far the largest industry in the country. As baby boomers require more medical services in the coming years, health care alone will consume even more of our nation’s wealth. As with any large industry, bursting at the seams with policies and paperwork, it is ripe for abuse. And doctors are certainly cashing in on special benefits while they can.

Physician pill perks, as some call them, are an added benefit for doctors to write prescriptions for certain medications. Do these doctors get perks for writing prescriptions for generic medications? Of course not! These doctors get free food, vacations and much more for writing prescriptions for the most costly drugs on the planet.

If you ever wondered why patients in the United States pay so much for prescribed medications, chances are a lot of the cost is used to offset what these pharmaceutical companies are giving away to doctors. And while so many people can’t afford their medications, or split their pills in half, quite a few doctors are sipping down a cocktail on the beach at the expense of sick patients.
